First edition of McCulloch's defence of primogeniture and entails, as reworked from one of the Notes and Dissertations contained in his edition of Wealth of Nations, and briefly outlined in an article for the Edinburgh Review), which is now "for the first time, laid before the reader in a systematic form; with illustrations, corrections and modifications, supplied or suggested by farther and more attentive observation and enquiry" (p. vi). Or, as snidely remarked by Mordecai Mullion (otherwise known as John Wilson, the Edinburgh Tory professor and McCulloch's adversary), McCulloch's works are "as unlike as may be to the heavenly bodies - as unlike as light and darkness; but in one respect, they resemble such luminaries - they have stated times of return... their reappearance, once every two or four years, can with certainty be predicted" (Some Illustrations of Mr McCulloch's Principles of Political Economy, 1826).
