Aanwysing der heilsame politike Gronden en Maximen van de Republike van Holland en West-Vriesland.Leiden and Rotterdam: Hakkens, 1671 Stock Code: 127257
Seventh edition, first published in 1662, of "the only Dutch bestseller in economics, this work is mainly an argument for industrial freedom plus moderate duties" (Carpenter). It went through 13 editions by 1746, including English, French and German translations. The second front free endpaper has the blindstamp of Theodore Jorissen (1833-1899), the Dutch historian and literary scholar, and has four pages of manuscript notes in Dutch on the front free endpapers, probably his, with a few other notes on the rear endpapers in a different hand.
Small quarto (142 x 95 mm). 18th-century quarter calf, red morocco label, faded gilt floral motifs to compartments, speckled paper sides, recent calf tips.
Engraved title page.
Calf and sides a little stripped in places, short split at foot of front joint and head of rear joint though still firm, tiny wear to head of spine, some light damp-staining to contents. A very good copy.
