A family copy, specially bound for presentation to Elliott Roosevelt by the American artist Pilides Tino Costa, with Costa's presentation inscription on the front free endpaper dated 24 December 1938 and with Elliott's name emblazoned in gilt on the front cover. Elliott Roosevelt was the son of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and consequently grandnephew of Theodore Roosevelt (who was uncle of Eleanor Roosevelt). "One of the most famous of all big-game hunting epics, this, with its larger than life sportsmen, was almost continually in print until the 1930s... Roosevelt's total bag was enormous even by the liberal standards of that era" (Czech); this is the Syndicate Publishing Company reprint, following the first edition printed by Charles Scribner the same year.
Octavo (229 x 153 mm). Later red morocco for presentation, spine lettered in gilt.
Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs.
Some minor scuffing, endpapers toned. A very good copy.
