Signed by EinsteinFirst edition, signed limited issue, number 132 of 760 copies signed and dated '49 by Einstein. This is the only Einstein signed limited edition, a handsome volume produced on the occasion of Einstein's 70th birthday.
The collection contains laudatory essays by many of Einstein's contemporaries including Max Born, Wolfgang Pauli, and Niels Bohr, with a reply by Einstein to the essays, and a bibliography of his writings. Also included is the first publication of Einstein's autobiographical notes, in which he famously described the awakening of his scientific curiosity when shown a compass as a child.
Octavo. Original brown morocco-grain cloth over bevelled boards, spine lettered in gilt, gilt facsimile of Einstein's signature to front board, top edges gilt, others untrimmed. Housed in a brown quarter morocco solander box by the Chelsea Bindery.
