Carroll inscribes his most famous work
Presentation copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, inscribed by the author on the half-title, "Mary Trimmer, from the author." Dodgson had lunch with Mary's family on 6 August 1868; her father was Revd. Trimmer, Rector of St Mary, Guildford, and Carroll later photographed Mary. A beautifully bound set of these later printings (Alice's Adventures was first published in 1866; Alice Through the Looking Glass in 1872).Description
2 volumes, octavo (180 x 122 mm). Finely bound for Henry Sotheran in red morocco, titles and decoration to spines gilt, raised bands, Alice motifs to covers, gilt rules to turn-ins, marbled endpapers, edges gilt. Housed in a custom red cloth and morocco slipcase.
