A handsomely bound set of Carroll's classic children's novels, published in 1865 and 1871 respectively. The Alice books earned the author "a place in the firmament of the great, for they are not only acts of imaginative genius but they also revolutionized writing for children" (ODNB).
Description
2 volumes, octavo (178 x 117 mm). Finely bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe in mid-20th-century red crushed morocco, titles and motifs to spines gilt, raised bands, single rule to boards gilt, gilt roll of the four card suits to turn-ins, marbled endpapers, edges gilt. Housed in fleece-lined blue cloth flat-back folding cases.

Condition
Leather bookplates of Haven O'More to front pastedowns. A lovely set, internally clean, with minor loss to fore corner of p. 169 of Adventures, text unaffected, handsomely bound.
