NotesFirst edition, first printing, of Kafka's incomplete first novel, written between 1911 and 1914 and published posthumously three years after the author's death. The first chapter had been published in 1913 under the title The Stoker, but Kafka abandoned the novel shortly thereafter. It was translated into English in 1938. The novel was partly based on the experiences of Kafka's relatives who had emigrated to the United States.
Octavo. Original orange cloth, printed paper labels to spine and front cover.
Spine sunned, cloth a little marked, else a very good copy.
