Amoris Victima.London: Leonard Smithers, 1897 Stock Code: 124871
First edition, number 4 of 25 large paper copies, the limitation being in the hand of the publisher, Leonard Smithers, of a total edition of 425 copies. This collection of poems was inspired by a woman called "Lydia" who Symons had met in either 1893 or 1894 (Munro, Arthur Symons, p. 54.) In it, Lydia was "admirably cast for the role of the enigmatic femme fatale" (ibid).
Octavo (188 x 127 mm). Contemporary dark blue morocco, raised bands to spine, lettered in gilt, turn-ins tooled in gilt, marbled endpapers, edges gilt.
Spine toned, front joint just starting but holding, tips a little rubbed. A very good copy.
