NotesFirst edition of this anonymously authored work, divided into three sections: "the principles of production, revenue, and consumption", "on the commercial intercourse of nations" and "considerations on the past and present state of international commerce". Subjects dealt with include the formation of wealth, the nature of capital, the extent of demand and the theory of money and foreign exchanges, the author citing earlier authorities such as Child, Colquhoun, Ricardo and Smith. An index of subjects and authors is appended. Though a former owner has attributed the work to Robert Torrens, and lettered the spine of the volume thus, this is false.
Octavo (213 x 132 mm). Rebound in modern quarter calf, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, raised bands, the fourth compartment lettered "Torrens", brown cloth boards, edges sprinkled dark red.
Small hole to top margin of sig. H8 and a couple of neat ink annotations to the first few pages. A very good copy.
