Ara Vus Prec.
London: The Ovid Press, 1919 Stock Code: 135422
His third book of poetry
First edition, number 118 of 220 numbered copies from a total edition of 264 (the remainder of the edition comprising signed, japon-printed, and review copies). The earliest copies issued were in a binding with paper-covered boards, with this binding of cloth-covered boards following. This was Eliot's third book of poetry. The title of the book was in fact an error: Eliot said "It only happened to be Vus on the title page because I don't know Provençal, and I was quoting from an Italian edition of Dante the editor of which apparently did not know Italian either" (see Gallup). The mistake was noticed in time for the correct title of Ara Vos Prec to be printed on the spine-label.Description
Quarto. Original yellow quarter cloth with black cloth sides, white paper label to spine printed in black.
Illustrations
Initials by Edward Wadsworth.
Condition
Spine lightly darkened with small mark at head, slight bumping at extremities. A very good copy.
