Aradia or the Gospel of the Witches.
London: David Nutt, 1899 Stock Code: 114436
First edition. The work of a Philadelphia-born journalist and folklorist, Aradia, a study of the persistence of "la vecchia religione" in Italy, it was claimed by its author to have been based on a manuscript account obtained from "Maddalena", a Florentine fortune-teller and witch. Although the subject of continuing controversy, the text undeniably exercised a persuasive influence over Gerald Gardner in the development of his ideas of witchcraft, and is widely considered to be the foundation text of modern wicca and stregheria. This original edition is extremely uncommon.
