First Evelyn Paul edition, deluxe signed limited issue, number 117 of 125 copies signed by the illuminator Evelyn Paul, and bound in decorated full vellum. Paul's designs are based on the decoration of mediaeval manuscripts, a fine accompaniment for Michael West's translation of the French tale, composed around the late 12th to early 13th century.
Quarto. Original vellum, front cover lettered in gilt within elaborate gilt, red, and blue frame, patterned endpapers, top edge gilt, other untrimmed.
With 13 mounted colour plates by Bocher, 23 pages of printed music by Mansion, and illumunations and other decorations throughout by Paul.
Boards slightly bowing, upper outer corner of front endpaper creased, sound and attractive, a very good copy.
