Notes

First edition, first printing, and very scarce: not listed in OCLC. Cone Decoration was an American hobby craze in the 1920s - a sort of chemical paste "embroidery", with designs provided (two folded samples of stencils are loosely inserted). The purchaser was encouraged to "cone" everything - clothing, lamps, curtains, umbrellas, screens, pillows, dresses, shawls, shower curtains, even grand pianos! Classes were held throughout America, usually in shops that sold the various kits; an embossed colour chart is printed on the back cover. The illustrations by J. M. Field are deliciously art deco.
