BATES, H. E.

Rare books by H. E. Bates, including first editions and signed first edition copies of The Darling Buds of May and My Uncle Silas.

H. E. Bates (1905-1974) is widely regarded as one of the most successful authors of his time. Born at the opening of the twentieth century in Northamptonshire, much of his work portrays rural English life.

Bates began writing novels in his late teens, yet discarded his first full length work without seeking publication. His second novel, The Two Sisters (1926), was published when he was twenty years old.
