First edition of a difficult title to find in acceptable condition. Sadleir notes that "the serial rights of this story were sold to the National Press Agency on November 9, 1880" but that he had been "unable to discover what used was made of these rights".
3 volumes, octavo. Original orange silk-grain cloth, titles in gilt to spines, Boards and spines with decorations blocked in black, black endpapers. Housed in custom red cloth slipcase.
Slight wear to extremities, spines a touch darkened, hinges broken but holding, vol. 1 a little shaken, free endpaper of vol. 2 detached; a good set.
