Ballade de la Geôle de Reading.
The Ballad of Reading Gaol by C. 3. 3.Paris, Société du Mercure de France, 1898 Stock Code: 140497
NotesFirst edition in French, with the original English text facing the translation. It was first published in the same year in London under the pseudonym "C.3.3." after Wilde's cell in Reading Gaol (cell 3 on the third landing of Gallery C). The first edition sold out rapidly, and a second edition was printed within weeks.
Octavo (176 x 114 mm). Near-contemporary red half morocco, title and floral motif in gilt direct to spine, marbled boards and endpapers, red and blue speckled edges.
Binding sometime expertly furbished, sunning to head of boards, a little rubbed, internally clean and fresh; a very good copy.
