Draught of a new Plan for the Organisation of the Judicial Establishment in France: Proposed as a Succedaneum to the Draught presented, for the same purpose, by the Committee of Constitution, to the National Assembly, December 21st, 1789.
[London]: No printer, March, 1790 Stock Code: 101349
First edition of the first instalment only, i.e. Bentham's Draught itself, which was "one of the first signs of the conversion of Bentham towards more democratic views; and, in truth, we may readily trace in certain passages of this treatise the germs of many of those luminous ideas which, thirty years later, were to be developed by him so admirably in his criticisms of our own judicial system" (Atkinson, p. 102). The entire work was not completed until 1827, and then only in manuscript.
"The news that the Constitutional Committee had submitted on 21 December 1789 to the National Assembly a draught plan for a new judicial system prompted Bentham to prepare and print in instalments his own Draught of a New Plan... At the beginning of April he addressed a letter to the President of the National Assembly, and one hundred copies of the parts so far printed in England were sent to Paris through the French minister in London, François Barthélemy." (Chuo).
