Cahiers pour une morale.
Paris: Éditions Gallimard, 1983 Stock Code: 134878
First edition, posthumously published, of Sartre's unfinished sequel volume to L'être et le néant. The final lines of that work announced the present one; "Toutes ces questions, qui nous renvoient à la réflexion pure et non complice, ne peuvent trouver leur réponse que sur le terrain moral. Nous y consacrerons un prochain ouvrage."
Sartre had begun work in 1947-1948 on this study of morality, but it remained unfinished at his death, and is here published for the first time. Arlette Elkaïm Sartre, his adopted daughter and literary executor, states in her introductory remarks that Sartre had always wanted his unfinished philosophical writings to only be published after his death. "Publíes après ma mort, ces textes restent inachevés, tels qu'ils sont, obscurs, puisque j'y formule des idées qui ne sont pas toutes développées. Ce sera au leacteur d'interpréter où elles auraient pu me mener." (Situations X).
