The first book by the American business man Frederick Barnard Hawley (18431929). Focusing on the economic aspects of population, the book grew out of a number of articles written by Hawley in the late 1870s.

Octavo. Original dark brown-red cloth, titles to spine gilt, rules to spine and boards in black.
Condition
Spine lightly sunned with loss to ends, cloth a touch scuffed and soiled, mild spotting to prelims and endmatter, light creasing to front free endpaper and flyleaf, short closed tear to margin of front flyleaf. A very good copy.
