Second edition (the same year as the first), enlarged with six new poems, of Byron's first major work, the book that launched the "Byronic hero", presenting Cantos 1 and 2 of Byron's autobiographical poetic romance covering his travels in Portugal, Spain, Albania and Greece, at the publication of which he "awoke, and found myself famous!".
This copy bears the ownership inscription of Rigby Graham (1931-2015), an artist who worked within the tradition of English Romanticism.
Octavo (219 x 140). Contemporary vellum, spine gilt-tooled in compartments with two red morocco title labels, gilt-ruled border to sides, edges yellow.
Folding plate at rear with facsimile of Romaic text.
Small ink ownership inscription of Rigby Graham to front free endpaper. Labels a little rubbed, covers a touch soiled, text lightly foxed with occasional light pencil annotations, light water marks p. 47 to p. 64, a handful of shallow losses to page extremities, not infringing on the text. A very good copy indeed, square and firm.
