Twelve Poems.Woodford Green, Essex: printed by Alan Tarling for Poet & Printer, 1971 Stock Code: 125955
Presentation copy to his sisterFirst edition, first impression, one of around 230 (stated 200) copies. Presentation copy to the author's sister Olwyn Hughes, inscribed on the front free endpaper "To Olwyn love from Ted Sept 20th 1971", with the inscription repeated upside down on the rear endpaper, no doubt by mistake, below Hughes's manuscript addition "author's copy No. 2. Sept 20 1971". Hughes and the printer each received 100 copies for private circulation. Hughes was very close to his sister Olwyn. After Plath's suicide in 1963 Olwyn helped to bring up their children, became her brother's literary agent, established the Rainbow Press with Ted in 1971 to produce fine press editions of his works, and remained devoted to him her entire life.
Crow Wakes was composed of the poems Hughes decided not to put into Crow, his 1970 compilation of poetry.
Small octavo. Original vellum-backed patterned boards, spine and front cover lettered in black. No dust jacket issued.
Spine lightly sunned, else fine.
