NotesFirst trade edition of Phillips's Dante, this number 67 of 100 special copies containing a loose signed and numbered Phillips screenprint, additionally signed on the limitation page, and slipcased. This is the signed limited issue of the "popular edition" (jacket front flap), following the 180 copies of the original edition produced at the Talfourd Press in 1983, which were issued at 10,000. Phillips's achievement, incorporating his own modern English translation of Dante's Inferno alongside illustrations in which his art interacts with the printed text in his signature style, is considered one of the major livres d'artistes of the post-war period.
Quarto. Original green cloth, decoration to front board and titles to spine gilt, patterned green endpapers. With the illustrated dust jacket, and the publisher's slipcase.
