Presentation copy to Maurice NadeauFirst edition, first printing, presentation copy inscribed on the half-title to the French man of letter "Pour Maurice Nadeau, en Hommage, Jacques Derrida". This is a nice association copy of one of Derrida's major works.
Maurice Nadeau (1911-2013) was "an oak tree under which the greatest writers of the 20th century sought shelter" (Lepape). One of the great names of the 20th century French literary landscape, he worked as a teacher, joined the Résistance during the Second World War, then became a literary critic and finally started his own publishing company.
This copy has two words crossed out in black pen on p. 31, very certainly in Nadeau's hand, and a promotional slip for another publication loosely inserted.
Octavo. Original cream card wrappers printed in black and blue.
A couple of vertical creases to spine, light spotting to covers, the binding otherwise sound, internally bright; a fresh copy.
Pierre Lepape, Maurice Nadeau : un combattant littéraire s'en est allé, Télérama, 17 June 2013.
