Presentation copy to Maurice Nadeau

First edition, first printing, presentation copy inscribed on the half-title to the French man of letter "Pour Maurice Nadeau, en Hommage, Jacques Derrida". This is a nice association copy of one of Derrida's major works.

Maurice Nadeau (1911-2013) was "an oak tree under which the greatest writers of the 20th century sought shelter" (Lepape). One of the great names of the 20th century French literary landscape, he worked as a teacher, joined the Résistance during the Second World War, then became a literary critic and finally started his own publishing company.

This copy has two words crossed out in black pen on p. 31, very certainly in Nadeau's hand, and a promotional slip for another publication loosely inserted.
