Death of a Beauty Queen.London, Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1935 Stock Code: 93698
NotesFirst edition, first impression, from the Sergeant Bobby Owen series. This is the publisher's retained copy with their stamp to the front panel of the dust jacket and the front pastedown, from the archive of Victor Gollancz (1893-1967), one of the revolutionary figures of 20th-century publishing. Everything about Gollancz was distinctive, from his business practices - he flouted convention, backed newcomers extravagantly, and held unique sway over the Book Society choices - to the appearance of his books, in the famous yellow jackets, a collaborative design between Gollancz himself and the typographer Stanley Morison.
Octavo. Original black cloth, spine lettered in red. With the dust jacket.
Some foxing to edges; an excellent copy in the jacket with sunned spine and a few nicks to extremities.
