Notes

First edition of Juglar's first article on commercial crises, printed on pages 555-581 of the Annuaire de l'économie politique et de la statistique. "If anyone can be singled out as first establishing the phenomenon of periodic business cycles as an indisputable fact of economic life, it is Clément Juglar" (Blaug.) After publishing this work in 1856, Juglar entered an essay contest on the subject of commercial crises, which he won with his 1862 work Des crises commerciales et de leur retour périodique en France, en Angleterre et aux États-Unis.
