Die Verwandlung [Metamorphosis].Leipzig : 1915 Stock Code: 138328
NotesFirst edition, first printing. The first of Kafka's masterpieces was issued both in boards and, as here, in wrappers. Sales were unimpressive; after a year or so the numerous unsold copies were stamped on the title pages with the official stamp of the German censors. This copy has no stamp to the title page and is therefore of the original issue.
With the ownership signature to the front wrapper of the German writer Irene Forbes-Mosse (1864-1946), translator and poet, whose works were later banned under the Third Reich. She was the younger sister of the novelist Elisabeth von Heyking (1861-1925).
Octavo. Original cream paper wrappers printed in red and black with an illustration by Ottomar Starke, edges uncut.
Light wear and minor glue repair at spine ends, wrappers a little toned with minor peripheral nicking, contents clean and umarked. A very good copy.
