Notes

First edition, first printing. Presentation copy inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "To Mr Lardner, who can write a better inscription any day - to say nothing of a play, George S. Kaufman, November, 1932". Kaufman and Ring Lardner had collaborated on the play June Moon in 1929, which was based on Lardner's short story "Some Like Them Cold". Dinner at Eight was adapted into a film in 1933, starring Marie Dressler, Jean Harlow and John Barrymore and directed by George Cukor.
