First separate edition in French of three of Hume's Four Dissertations, first published in English in 1757: The Natural History of Religion, Of the Passions, Of Tragedy, and Of the Standard of Taste, translated into French by Johann Bernhard Merian. The volume was originally issued as volume four of Schneider's Oeuvres philosophiques de Mr. D. Hume, published in five volumes between 1758 and 1960.
Description
Octavo. Contemporary blue-green quarter calf, marbled sides, spine lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, brown speckled edges.
Condition
Front board re-attached, tips worn, hinges cracked, small ink note to verso of front free endpapers, occasional minor foxing. A good copy.
