The first volume was printed in May 1791, only three months after the first edition appeared in London and one month after Paine's return to France.Description
2 volumes in 1, octavo (192 x 116 mm). Contemporary mottled half calf, red morocco spine label, spine with floral bands tooled in gilt, patterned paper boards, blue marbled edges.

Condition
Contemporary ownership inscription to title page, with signature accompanied by "acheté en 1791". Extremities lightly worn, head of spine chipped and a little worming to foot, boards scuffed with a stain to the rear board, hinges cracked but firm, occasional dampstain and spotting to contents; overall a very good copy in a contemporary binding.
