El llano en llamas.
Y otros cuentos.Mexico: Fondo de Cultura Economica, 1953 Stock Code: 148115
First edition, first printing, of Rulfo's first book. This collection of short stories precedes his modern masterpiece of Spanish American literature, Pedro Páramo (1955), and both established Rulfo's literary reputation. This edition is rarely found in such good condition and in the jacket.
Set in the harsh countryside of the Jalisco region where Rulfo was raised, the stories explore the tragic lives and sufferings of its inhabitants. They were first translated into English in 1967 as The Burning Plain and Other Stories.
Small octavo. Original light blue cloth, spine and front board lettered in black, pale grey endpapers. With dust jacket.
Spine and extremities slightly faded, the binding otherwise sound and clean, faint toning to contents, else internally fresh. A near-fine copy in near-fine jacket, spine panel a little toned, minute abrasion marks to front panel (probably from silverfish), bright, not price-clipped.
