El Salvador: Embassy Under Attack.New York: Vantage Press, 1981 Stock Code: 148293
First edition, first printing, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to a fellow member of the US Foreign Service, Ruth V. Verdin: "To Ruth Verdin, good friend, long-time diplomatic colleague, excellent source of administrative support in San Salvador, and a real credit to the Foreign Service, with all best wishes of the author, Frank J. Devine". Devine was appointed by President Carter in 1977 to serve as Ambassador to El Salvador, serving until 1980. He was a close observer of the country as it descended into civil war and both Marxist and right-wing terrorism; the Embassy was attacked twice, in September 1978 and October 1979, and his residence was bombed in June 1980. The present book is his memoir of those years and his analysis of the situation.
Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket.
Slight lean to spine, a little shaken. A very good copy in like jacket, slightly rubbed with minor nicks at extremities.
