First edition, first printing. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Louis, with more real love than would be fitting, perhaps, to confess on a flyleaf. Edna Ferber. New York, December 12, 1915." This is the final volume in the Emma McChesney trilogy by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Show Boat and Giant. Ferber achieved her first great success with the Emma McChesney stories, which were originally published in American Magazine between 1911 and 1913.
