A scarce copy of Beckett's landmark workFirst edition, trade issue; it was preceded only by a tiny limited issue of 35 large paper copies issued earlier the same year. This copy has an appealing inscription to the front free endpaper dated from the play's first run: "vu au Theatre Babylone 28 Mars 1953".
Godot was written and published in French, and was first performed in full at the Théâtre de Babylone in Paris on 5 January 1953. Beckett's English translation of the play later premiered at the Arts Theatre, London, on 3 August 1955, and was published the same year.
Octavo. Original white wrappers, spine and front cover lettered in blue and black, edges untrimmed. Housed in a custom blue quarter morocco folding box.
A near-fine copy, spine mildly toned and creased, wrappers otherwise sharp, contents faintly toned as usual, else clean and free from marks.
