Essays in Biography.
New edition with three additional essays. Edited by Geoffrey Keynes.London: Rupert Hart-Davis, 1951 Stock Code: 140126
Expanded edition, with three new essays, on Isaac Newton, William Stanley Jevons, and Mary Paley Marshall. First published in March 1933, with a second impression in May 1933, this marked the third printing overall. Keynes's collection gives biographical sketches of various economists and politicians, including Winston Churchill, Alfred Marshall, and David Lloyd George. The Newton essay is particularly notable - in 1936, following the first edition of the book, Keynes purchased a considerable quantity of Newton's papers, and spent much of the next decade proving the great scientist had dabbled in alchemy and was obsessed with alchemy and the occult: Keynes christens him "the last of the magicians" (p. 311).
