First edition, first impression, of Pym's second book. Inscribed by the author "To Margaret and Roger Till, with all good wishes from Barbara Pym (A reward for perseverance 3. 7. 76)", and additionally signed by her on the title-page. Among Pym's literary papers, today held in the Bodleian, are some fifty leaves of correspondence from the two recipients of the present copy, including "poems by Roger Till"; Pym's message if anything appears to have provided encouragement, as their letters continued from 1976 to 1979, a year before the author's death.Description
