In a superb Bayntun bindingFirst Pogany edition, first impression, of Goethe's Faust in a superb Bayntun binding. The US edition was published the same year.
Quarto. Finely bound by Bayntun (Riviere), Bath, in orange morocco, spine lettered in gilt, raised bands, floral motif in gilt to spine and boards, turn-ins richly gilt, marbled endpapers, all edge gilt.
30 colour plates (including frontispiece) from illustrations by Willy Pogany, all with captioned tissue-guard, decorative title printed in black and red, historiated opening initials.
A couple of small marks to boards, the binding otherwise vibrant and sound, scattered foxing to endpapers, else internally crisp; an attractive copy.
