NotesFirst edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author to Mme Jean Stern, with Stern's bookplate, the inscription reading "à Madame Jean Stern, respecteusement, signed M Prévost". Jean Stern (1875-1962) was a French fencer who won Olympic gold in the epee class at London, 1908. The scion of a noted banking family, he was married to Claude Lambert, herself the daughter of Belgian banker Léon Lambert and his wife Zoé de Rothschild.
Octavo. Contemporary red half morocco, spine lettered gilt, raised bands, marbled sides and endpapers, top edge gilt, others uncut; original yellow wrappers bound in.
Inscribed by the author on the half-title to Jean Stern, and with Stern's bookplate.
Extremities rubbed, a little browning to extreme edges, a very good copy.
