First edition, sole separate printing, one of 400 unnumbered copies. The poem was originally written in 1943, just after Larkin graduated from Oxford. The short biography on the verso contains a note in which Larkin recounts that, "The piece is evidence that I once read at least one 'foreign poem', though I can't remember how far, if at all, my verses are based on the original".
