Field Day Pamphlets.
Numbers 1-15.Derry: Field Day Theatre Company Limited, 1983-8 Stock Code: 116991
Each signed by their respective authorsFirst editions, first impressions, of the full set of Field Day pamphlets, each signed by their respective authors, published by the theatre company credited with developing Irish Studies and stimulating Irish literary and political culture during the 1980s and 1990s. The authors are Tom Paulin, Seamus Heaney, Seamus Deane (who contributed two pamphlets), Richard Kearney, Declan Kiberd, Terence Brown, R.L. McCartney, Marianne Elliott, Eanna Mulloy, Michael Farrell, Patrick J. McCrory, Terry Eagleton, Frederic Jameson, and Edward W. Said. Each was inscribed at the request of Dr Philip Murray, the noted Irish bibliophile whose collection sold in 2016 in Ireland's largest-ever sale of first editions. Some authors wrote personal messages to Murray; Marianne Elliott wrote "the future is in the past, the past in the future - can we learn?", and Seamus Deane calls Murray "a brick from Babylon!" The pamphlets are typically sold separately and therefore the complete set is scarce in commerce.
15 works, octavo. Original coloured paper wrappers, wire-stitched, front wrappers lettered in brown, blue, and white. With the wraparound bands.
Light foxing to contents and bands, a few tape repairs to the wraparound bands, one of which is loose. Overall a bright and excellent set.
