NotesFirst edition, first impression, first issue. A very scarce war poetry collection, in exceptional fine condition. Claude E. C. H. Burton wrote patriotic war poetry in the early years of the First World War under these two pseudonyms for The Daily Mail and The Evening News, both Lord Northcliffe's publications. His son, Captain Henry Patrick Claude Burton, Bedfordshire Regiment, 1st Battalion, was killed in action on 27 July 1917, aged 23, and is remembered on the Thiepval memorial to the missing. Copac lists two copies of the first edition in British institutional holdings, one at the British Library and one in the National Library of Wales. OCLC adds several abroad.
