For Remembrance.
Soldier Poets who have fallen in the War.
London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1918 Stock Code: 144555
First edition, first impression, of Adcock's memorial volume, giving biographies and poetical excerpts for 44 "Soldier Poets", 20 of which are portrayed. This book is uncommonly found, especially so in such good condition and with the jacket.
The dust jacket, which was designed by Eugene Hastain, bears on the front flap an advertisement ("It is a great volume to send to one who has lost a son or a husband, for here are the things that shall help her to bear her loss with exultation..." etc) for Lawrence Binyon's For the Fallen and Other Poems, in which the famous titular memorial poem first appeared. The poets include Rupert Brooke, Julian and Gerald Grenfell, Francis Ledwidge, Harold Parry, Charles Hamilton Sorley, E. Wyndham Tennant, and Edward Thomas. This edition was expanded in 1920 to encompass 75 authors, with an additional six portrait plates.
