First edition in English of Kraft und Stoff, "the gospel of materialism" (PMM) and a classic of 19th-century philosophy, first published in Germany in 1855. Büchner contributed an important preface to the present edition, in which he reflects upon the importance of Darwin's discoveries to his philosophy.
