Four Quartets.
New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1943 Stock Code: 137055
One of 788 copies
First collected edition, first printing, one of 788 copies with the slug "first American edition" to the verso of the title page. Two printings were produced prior to publication. The first printing constituted 4,165 copies, but the poor quality of the printing led to the publisher destroying all but 788 copies, which were sent out to retain copyright. The work was reprinted, with these second printing copies distinguished by the absence of the "first American edition" slug. The small number of copies of the first printing which survived the publisher's decision means that the book is now scarce in any state, but especially so in good condition with the dust jacket preserved.Description
Octavo. Original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With the dust jacket.
Condition
Spine slightly cocked, with a couple of faint marks to rear board, else a fine copy, contents bright and fresh, in the lightly toned dust jacket, short closed tear to head of rear panel, couple of nicks and rubbing to extremities.
