First edition, first impression, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "Violet Scott James from Edward Garnett". Violet Eleanor Scott-James née Brooks (1885-1942) was a journalist and literary critic, as well as a close friend of Edward Garnett.

Octavo. Original brown cloth-backed brown paper boards, paper label to spine.

Condition

A very good copy, spine sunned, corners bumped, front board sunned at top, boards a little rubbed and worn at extremities, a few marks to boards, mild spotting to some pages, but otherwise clean.
