Gender Studies.
Göttingen: Steidl, 2014 Stock Code: 130721
First edition, first printing, signed by the artist on the half-title, "Bettina Rheims, 2015, Paris". Gender Studies is a series of portraits first exhibited in 2012 in Düsseldorf featuring the "sound design" of Frederic Sanchez, included here on CD. In 2011 Rheims posted an advertisement on Facebook looking for models that felt "other" to feature in a series that would work as a continuation of Modern Lovers (1990) an examination of androgyny and transgender identities, shot in the late 1980s. Rheims introduces this work with thanks to her models; "These boys and girls were brave enough to question their identity, to the point of modifying it... It is a long and painful journey, I thank them for sharing these precious moments with me".
