Notes

First editions, first printings, inscribed by the author, "To Harry Ruby with all good wishes Anita Loos", on the front free endpaper of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The recipient, songwriter Harry Ruby (1895-1974) co-wrote the song "I Wanna Be Loved by You", which featured in the 1955 film of Gentlemen Marry Brunettes. It later became one of Marilyn Monroe's most famous performances in Some Like It Hot (1959).

2 works, octavo. Original red cloth, spine and front board lettered in gilt; original black cloth-backed black and white patterned boards, spine lettered in gilt. With the dust jackets.

Condition

Blondes: A fine copy in the jacket with some stains to panels, toned spine and some small chips to extremities. Brunettes: Bookseller's ticket to rear pastedown and note to rear flap of the jacket. A fine copy in the jacket that has a toned spine and some nicks to extremities. A very attractive set.
