INSCRIBED TO A FELLOW PRACTITIONER OF THE NOUVEAU ROMAN
First edition, first impression. Presentation copy of Robbe-Grillet's erotic ciné-roman, inscribed by the author "Pour Jean Baptiste Baronian, bien cordialement, Robbe-Grillet" on the half-title. Baronian (b. 1944) began his literary career as an editor at Editions Marabout before publishing his first novel, L'un l'autre, in 1971: "prélude à quelques livres que le défi formel apparente au Nouveau Roman, tout en l'abordant avec ironie" (Académie française biography, online). Robbe-Grillet was the most explicit theorist of the Nouveau Roman, and his writings on the subject were collected as Pour un Nouveau Roman, published in 1963. His first novel, Les Gommes (1953), was a reworking of the policier genre; Baronian is also known as a crime fiction author under his pseudonym Alexandre Lous. An excellent association copy.Description
