Goddesses Three.London, Richard Bentley and Son, 1896 Stock Code: 103244
NotesFirst edition, rare: not in Sadleir or the extensive collection of Robert Lee Wolff (the author is absent entirely from both catalogues), Copac lists only 6 copies in British and Irish institutional libraries (BL, Oxford, Cambridge, London Library, Scotland, Trinity College Dublin), and OCLC adds only 4 copies worldwide (California at Berkeley, Illinois, New York University, Wisconsin at Madison). Little is known about Daisy Hugh Pryce (1864-1942), except that she spent two years in a Turkish harem as a governess; she has been described as "a veteran author of popular romances" (M. Wynn Thomas, In the Shadow of the Pulpit: Literature and Nonconformist Wales, 2010, p. 59, discussing her book the Ethics of Evan Wynne, 1913), and the Oxford Companion to Edwardian Fiction notes that she published ten novels between 1896 and 1914. Goddesses Three would appear to be her first book.
2 volumes, octavo. Original brown cloth, gilt lettered spines, blind lettered front covers, endpapers patterned with publisher's monogram.
Spines rolled, light abrasions to extremities. An exceptionally nice copy.
