[Continued and supplemented by Humbert Vellay].Paris: Du Pre, Gormont, Petit, Pierre Vidue, 1528 Stock Code: 135067
Early edition, a reprint of that published in 1521, of a successful Renaissance history of France. Libriarian to Louis XII of France, known for his eloquence and diplomatic skills, Robert Gaguin (1425-1502) is regarded as one of the first French humanists. His position allowed him, as a historian, to enjoy access to a great quantity of rare manuscript sources, procured for him by his King.
Octavo (182 x 125). Contemporary limp vellum, yapp edges, spine lettered in ink by hand, remnants of ties.
Large woodcut printer's devices on title and verso of last leaf, many woodcut initials throughout, large woodcut panel to verso of f.[xx] repeated on verso of penultimate leaf.
Trace of old blind-stamped armorial device in the margin of title. Some soiling to vellum, contents with occasional light browning or foxing, one or two very minor marginal wormholes; a very good copy.
Renouard, ICP, III, 1466.
