First edition, signed limited issue, one of 250 unnumbered cloth-bound copies signed by the author on the title page; here additionally inscribed by Heaney "Mary - fine girl y'are! Seamus" under his signature. The recipient was Heaney's friend Mary Conley Downe.
Downe founded, with her husband Edward, the Irish Clifden Arts Festival, now the longest running community arts festival in Ireland. A further 500 unsigned copies of Hailstones were issued in wrappers.
